Report what actually happened
Log in or create a free account to track whether your submitted reports get approved into the model. An account isn't required to submit - anyone can report below.
Tried this loadout on this rock in-game? Tell us what actually happened - this is the only real way these estimates get more accurate over time. Reports are reviewed before counting toward the model, and reuse whatever ship/loadout/rock stats are currently entered above.
Mining laser heads
Every mining laser head currently tracked, with its base stats before any modules or gadgets. Power is shown as the charged min-max range; Resistance and Instability are the head's own percentage-point modifiers applied to a rock's stats (negative Resistance makes rocks easier to break).
| Head | Size | Power (min-max) | Module slots | Resistance | Instability |

| Arbor MH2 Mining Laser | 2 | 480-2,400 | 2 | +25% | -35% |
| Helix I Mining Laser | 1 | 630-3,150 | 2 | -30% | 0% |

Rock Breaker calculator FAQ
How does the Rock Breaker calculator work?
Pick your ship, mining laser head(s), modules, and an optional gadget, then enter the mass/resistance/instability your scanner reads off the rock. The calculator combines your equipment's real stats (power, resistance, and instability modifiers) against the rock's stats to estimate whether your build has enough power to break it, and by how much margin.
Is this an exact formula?
No - CIG has never published the exact mining formula. This is a best-effort community model built from real, verified equipment stats, combined under a documented (not guessed) convention. It ships with a submission system so real reported outcomes can refine the model over time, the same way this site's mortar and refinery calculators work.
How does the MOLE's 3 mining lasers work in this calculator?
The MOLE gets 3 independent laser-head groups, each with its own break verdict, plus a combined verdict for firing them together at the same rock (with a checkbox to include/exclude each head from the combined shot). Combined power is summed before comparing against the rock's resistance - this is a documented modeling choice, not a confirmed game mechanic, and may be adjusted as real reports come in.
Why do some ships show a "not yet confirmed" notice?
Golem, ROC, and ROC-DS mount configurations (how many mining lasers, what size) haven't been verified yet, so the calculator shows a single generic laser-head slot for them rather than guessing a real loadout.
Is this Rock Breaker calculator official?
No. AO Gaming Tools is an unofficial tools site. This calculator is a community utility and is not affiliated with Cloud Imperium Games, Cloud Imperium Rights LLC, or Roberts Space Industries.
